Live Coverage YCS Bochum

Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series

This is it! The YCS has finally made its way over the Atlantic Ocean and will make its European debut this very weekend in Bochum, Germany! We’ll be LIVE on site, providing you with all the updates of what’s happening at probably the biggest European tournament this year.

To be a little more precise: We’ll have 3 writers on site – PJ, Anh Huy and myself -, an upgrade to the team of Birmingham. Together with some of the great guys working for Konami, we’ll make it our mission to give you the best coverage experience possible! Let us know what you think and get in touch – the easiest ways would be Twitter (PJ, Huy and soul) or ICQ (#44734926). You may also post here or in one of the popular message boards, but I guess I won’t find the time between writing articles to check my blog and / or those sites.

Alright, that’s it for now. I’m looking forward to the weekend, seeing and working with some great people! Be there or be square!

Unter den Hut geschaut: 7 years of Yu-Gi-Oh!

The YCS is pretty much just one more day away, but there’s still enough time to take a step back and think about what happened in the past 7 years! The fact that the event will be held in Bochum is one of the many reasons why this is the perfect time to reflect on the impressive success story of Yu-Gi-Oh!, so let me take you on this trip and enjoy the ride!

Granted, the best way to prepare for the tournament might be my preview article How to prepare for high level tournaments on the official coverage website, however, you can read over my weekly column to pass the rest of the time: Unter den Hut geschaut: 7 years of Yu-Gi-Oh!

Special issue of the eTCG.de magazine

Special Issue of the eTCG.de Magazine - YCS Bochum

The YCS Bochum is drawing closer and closer and you can already feel the tension building up. The first articles are already online on the official Konami website, telling you all about the online pre-registration. Later this week, more articles will go live, providing you with useful advice on how to best prepare for the tournament or what the Metagame will supposedly look like.

The eTCG.de Street Team also wanted to do it’s bit to help you get ready for the tournament. Those guys put a lot of effort into a special issue of the eTCG.de magazine. It comes packed with useful information about the event! We took a look at the metagame of the past major events, the YCS Toronto and the final of the eTCG.de Pro Challenge, collected information about the hotels in Bochum and try to give you some good advice for new deck ideas.

So waste no more time, go check out the Special Issue of the eTCG.de Magazine – YCS Bochum.

Unter den Hut geschaut: How much would you pay?

One of the “evergreens” among the topics that Yu-Gi-Oh! players like to talk about are “card prices”. There’s a thread on eTCG.de that only deals with this single topic and it has god knows how many pages…

I thought it was about time to tackle the subject and dig a little deeper. In this week’s article, I’m looking at the topic from various angles and even come up with prices for two competitive decks so you know how much you need to invest in case you want to play among the pros. Go check it out: Unter den Hut geschaut: How much would you pay?

On a related note: Harti was also able to finish another eTCG.de Podcast yesterday. It features Claudio Kirchmair as our guest of the week and we’re talking about his preparation for the YCS in Bochum. You can tune in right here: eTCG.de Podcast Vol. 6.

Trip to DMF Antwerp

After a number of bad news for fans of the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, I decided it is about time to give you guys some stuff to look forward to again: I’m organizing a group trip from Berlin to the Darkmoon Faire Antwerp!

We would rent a car and pick all interested players up. Like I said, we’ll start in Berlin, but we’ll also pass Braunschweig, Hannover, Bielefeld and Dortmund. So this might also be a good chance for you if you’re living in one of those cities. More information can be found on Warcraft-TCG.de.

The big problem of the WoW TCG

Cryptozoic Entertainment

The World of Warcraft Trading Card Game has a problem.

Wait a minute, let me start all over again: The WoW TCG has a number of problems. However, one problem is overshadowing ‘em all: The game is really fucking awesome. The problem with amazing products is that they tend to attract passionate people. Very passionate people. The kind of people that not only like a particular product, the kind of people that tend to fall in love with a product. Sometimes, this goes so far that they start to identify theirselves with the particular product.

So far, so good. You may ask yourself: What’s the big deal; what’s the problem? Well, here’s the thing: Passionate people also tend to live in extremes. If a product they fell in love with is not living up to their expectations anymore (for whatever reason), their strong feelings start to turn into the opposite – which would be hate in this case. Now this might sound a little far-fetched, however, most of you have seen what happened when Matt Markoff didn’t see his money for a while. It takes more than a little (alright, granted: a very long) wait for someone like Matt Markoff to start an epic rant.

What I’m saying is this: Matt was getting SO very angry because he loves this game SO very fucking much. Therefore, he really wants to see it succeed. And if that doesn’t happen, he gets all crazy. If you’ve ever been in love with someone and the person hurt you in some way, you might have also experienced your strong feelings turning into lots of anger or even something close to hate (and if you were able to clear up the misunderstanding afterwards, reverting back to love once more). Now this ain’t about Matt. He’s far from being the only one, there are hundreds of WoW TCG players that really love this game.

Amigo

Now, back to the other problems at hand. In case you haven’t heard, the Release Celebrations for the German product of the upcoming WoW TCG set Icecrown have been cancelled. And this after they had been re-scheduled. Twice. What sounds like a very bad joke is the sad truth. One more thing: I consider myself one of the players that really love this game.

Now all you need to do is putting the pieces together and you know why I’m trying to avoid commenting on the latest happenings in the WoW TCG. Therefore, I guess it’s best to pass the mic and ask for your opinion. Let me know what you got in mind for the WoW TCG and what you hope to see in the future.

Unter den Hut geschaut: Advertisements on eTCG.de

This week’s article isn’t so much about the Yu-Gi-Oh! community as it is about eTCG.de – the place where the German speaking community comes together. I’m bringing you the latest news of the upcoming changes on eTCG.de. We’ll be reducing the advertisements on some spots, but add some in other spaces. It’s worth looking into it, so head over: Unter den Hut geschaut: Advertisements on eTCG.de.
