This week in “Suppe für den soul”, I’m continuing my tournament report from the Grand Qualififer Magdeburg and give a few more insights on how to improve your gaming – yes, there’s still more to it.

My future career

As I’m getting asked lots of questions about this topic, I wanted to clarify a few things. So where should I start?

Let’s start with the Trading Card Games: I won’t continue working in the TCG industry. I got offered a job in this field, but I decided not to take it. I have been working in this industry for more than 4 years and for most of the time, I would have never imagined that I would turn my back on it. However, I grew more and more unhappy with the lack of opportunity, therefore I decided that i would be best to continue my self-development by looking for new challenges in a different field.

Which directly leads us to my new position. I’ll be doing Community Management for Station54, a Berlin based company doing Community Management for Electronic Arts. So in case you’re a fan of some of the EA games (like Battlefield Heroes, Battleforge, etc.), we will definitely stay in touch!

I’m very much looking forward to this new position and I’ll be starting next week already. This is a perfect transition as I won’t be unemployed for a single day (which I consider another big success). My thanks go to the good folks at EA (especially Per Bonomi) as well as to the great team of Station54 (especially my new boss Uli Lächelt).

Suppe für den soul – Comeback

I’m finally allowed to play sanctioned tournaments again! So I participated in the Grand Qualifier Magdeburg last weekend which immediately got me the qualification for the German WoW TCG Nationals. In my slightly different tournament report, I’m not only describing what happened on site, I’m also giving useful advice how to improve your game!

Later today, I should have more news – some of the positive kind.

It’s just been brought to my attention that some comments are erroneously marked as spam. If you fell victim to my spam-blocking plug-in (that was so far doing a fine job as far as I was concerned), please let me know. I’ll make sure that your comment will see the light of day!

Suppe für den soul – Which TCG is the best?

After the Magic rules changes, a discussion about the various TCGs broke loose. I want to tackle the subject which TCG is actually the best. Especially the opinion that players of certain TCGs are less skilled needs to be abandoned as it’s completely absurd. Plenty of reasons are given in the column.

More books

Finally, I was able to update the Books page. I added short reviews of Malcolm Gladwell’s The Tipping Point as well as of Sir Ken Robinson’s Out of our Minds – Learning to be creative. Both books make up for a great read, so you better check them out. Especially if you liked Ken Robinson’s TED talk.

Schmutzige Picks – Synergies

To my own surprise, another Schmutzige Picks article written by me has been published today. Originally, it was written last week, but as Tyra surprisingly delivered an article of his own, it had to be pushed back. So well, this week it went online, it’s about synergies in Sealed format decks.
